Hyperbole is a form of extreme exaggeration. It’s rhetorical and functions to create an exaggerated effect, usually humorous. Like when your Mum shouts at you, “I’ve told you a million times not to leave your clothes on the floor!” Well, we know she’s not literally told you a million times. That’s hyperbole.
Long before he gave a hobbit ring to carry or a big ape a beautiful woman to protect, Peter Jackson gave us Dead Alive, one of the most hyperbolic, over the top, funniest, goriest horror films in the history of the genre. There…was that description hyperbole enough? Actually, no!

This film really is incomparable to any other. EVERYTHING IS EXAGGERATED AND EXTREME. From the characters, to the soundtrack, to the camera angels and shots, to the characterizations, to the violence, to the gore, to the bad accents, to the humor, to the stop-action animation, even to the dialogue with just a select samples of what I’m talking about:
“Your mother ate my dog!” reply- “Not all of it.”
“That’s my mother you’re pissing on!”
“I know what to do; I’ve read the comics! Total…bodily…dismemberment!”
And my favorite… “I kick ass for the Lord!”

This was my first time seeing this movie and what a treat. It is DEFINITELY NOT for the squeamish. The ending is a blood bath! Even entrails get up and attack. There’s a zombie baby that I will never get out of my mind. EVER! If you’re a fan of gore…you have GOT to see this one. It’s the funniest horror movie I’ve seen since House (1986 version with William Katt). With House, they trick you into thinking it’s a scary movie through over half the film, then it goes off the wall crazy funny. But with Dead Alive, the tone is set in the first four minutes!
