Science Fiction is an interesting an expansive genre of fiction. “Literature in which speculative technology, time travel, alien races, intelligent robots, gene-engineering, space travel, experimental medicine, psionic abilities, dimensional portals, or altered scientific principles contribute to the plot or background.”
Killers from Space falls under the “ALIEN RACES” category of science fiction. These aliens have advanced technology, yet they cannot save their home planet because their sun is about to explode. Their plan is to release a menagerie of giant mutant insects and reptiles on the Earth once they get enough power to supply to their space stations to transport the billions of their race to Earth. They will then use gama rays to destroy the monsters who will then fertilize the earth for growing their food. Very environmentally sound plan! LOL

The only man standing in their way is Dr. Martin (played by Peter Graves – bare chested in several scenes in this film!). It seems through the use of a slide rule and a pencil and paper, he figures out how to overload the alien’s underground power supply to explode by cutting off the power. Yeah, I know…it’s science. I just go with it!

The only memorable thing in this film are the aliens’ eyes. They look like painted ping pong balls. I imagine the menagerie scene was frightening in its day. Lots of close-ups on scary reptiles and nasty cockroaches. This is a fun movie to watch, but don’t expect too much other than a laugh or two. There are plenty more fun 50s flicks to watch!
